Avengers Infinity War: Doctor Strange for shock death? Benedict Cumberbatch drops hint

Infinity War was filmed back-to-back with Avengers 4, due next spring – and it’s thought that the two movies will kill off at least a couple of Marvel favourites.

Doctor Strange hasn’t been in the films for very long – his solo movie was only released in late 2016 – but could he be among the dead?

Benedict Cumberbatch hinted as much during a recent interview with MTV, saying he’s certainly in harm’s way throughout the upcoming blockbuster.

Alluding to Thanos, he spilled: “There’s lots of threats coming his way. He holds the Time Stone around his neck for a part of this film.

“We know someone is coming to get them for a big glove.”

When the interviewer said he’s unlikely to meet his demise, Cumberbatch added: “It might not be. It says you’ll see Doctor Strange again at the end of the first one and you have.

“You’ve seen him in Thor: Ragnarok and you know he’s in this one. Doesn’t mean there’s gonna be any more of him, so you’ll have to wait and see.”

After he was seen in the trailer being tortured, the groundwork is certainly there for a surprise exit. But would Marvel bosses really bump him off so soon after his debut?

Other rumoured victims include Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark (Iron Man), Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.

Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow was also thought to be a possible fatality, but now it seems Marvel are planning her own solo movie.

Talk also continues over where exactly Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) is, given that he has not appeared in any trailers or posters so far.

“We keep saying, ‘Patience is a virtue,’” Joe Russo said this week.

“We did not forget the twice-nominated Jeremy Renner. We cooked up a story for him that is a little bit of a long play. Not a short play.”

Avengers: Infinity War is out on April 26 in the UK.
