Next month the biopic of Queen singer Freddie Mercury hits cinemas with Malek in the lead role.

Bohemian Rhapsody arrives 27 years after the singer’s death and the Mr Robot star has been honest about the pressure of playing such an iconic figure.

Speaking with the , Malek said: “It’s not lost on me that this could go terribly wrong, that it could be detrimental to one’s career should this not go the right way.”

“Why would you want to alter anyone’s perception of their hero?”

Malek also reveal how he mastered Mercury’s stage moves by looking at performers the singer was inspired by like David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix and Liza Minnelli.

Malek added: “It was almost more useful at times to watch Liza than it was to watch Freddie himself.

“You found the inspiration and birth of those movements.”

An official synopsis for the film reads: “Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet.

“The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music.

“In the process, cementing the legacy of a band that were always more like a family, and who continue to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.”

Bohemian Rhapsody also stars Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor and Joseph Mazzello as John Deacon.

The movie was originally directed by X-Men’s Bryan Singer, but he was fired after going AWOL from set and having clashed with cast and crew.

But Dexter Fletcher was hired as his replacement and is now directing the Elton John biopic, Rocketman.

Bohemian Rhapsody is released in UK cinemas on October 24, 2018.
