Witnesses heard the horrifying explosions and a police spokesman has confirmed the first blast.

They added the first incident could have been caused by a suicide bomber, however there has been no immediate claim of responsibility.

Reports have claimed the bomb was carried on a motorcycle.

The initial explosion took place in the Shashdarak area of the city.

It is believed that at least four people have been killed in the incident.

Police officer Jan Agha detailed that a journalist was killed in the second blast.

A further eight people are thought to be wounded.

The second explosion was heard shortly after the first – exact details of the incident are unknown.

Mohammad Asim, the chief of the Kabul ambulance service, detailed that three people were killed and six were wounded in the first blast while the second killed the journalist and wounded two police officers.

The event comes shorty after another blast killed 60 people in a western area of the city.

Security officials have warned of increasing attacks in Kabul and across other parts of the Middle East nation before parliament elections set to take place in October.
