The country music legend, who has died at the age of 81, released I’m Not Gonna Miss You almost three years ago as part of the soundtrack to his documentary film Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me.

The film focussed on his diagnosis and final tour, and the lyrics of the track focus on the heartbreaking road that lay ahead for him.

He sang: “You’re the last person I will love. you’re the last face I will recall, and best of all, I’m not gonna miss you.

“I’m never gonna hold you like I did, or say I love you to the kids, you’re never gonna see it in my eyes, it’s not gonna hurt me when you cry.”

“I’m never gonna know what you go through, all the things I say or do, all the hurt and all the pain.

“One thing selfishly remains: I’m not gonna miss you.”

The track won huge acclaim at the time of release; including a Grammy Award for Best Country Song.

It also had an Oscar nod for Best Original Song.

Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimers in early 2011, and announced it publicly the following June.

Across his incredible career he sold 45 million records and accumulated 12 RIAA Gold albums, four Platinum albums, and one Double-Platinum album.

He also charted 80 different singles, and made history in 1967 by winning four Grammys in country and op categories.
