And like the aforementioned films, Green Book is also set in the past – yet feels undeniably resonant in the 21st century.

When is the Green Book movie out in cinemas?
Green Book has been making its way through the film festival circuit to critical acclaim.
The film will be out in US cinemas on November 21, 2018.
Those waiting to see it in the UK will have to wait a fair bit longer.
Green Book is out in the UK on February 1, 2019.
What is the plot of Green Book?
Green book follows the true story of Tony Lip and Don Shirley.
Lip, a working-class Italian-American in the Bronx, New York is hired to drive a famed black pianist across the American Deep South.
Taking place in the 1960s, the south is a land of entrenched segregation and Jim Crow laws.
The official synopsis adds: “Confronted with racism, danger – as well as unexpected humanity and humour – they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.”
The film is named after The Negro Motorist Green Book, commonly called The Green Book which was a segregation-era road travel guidebook to help African-Americans travel safely while dealing with racial discrimination issues and Jim Crow laws, such as whites-only garages, restaurants and hotels refusing services.
Who stars in the Green Book movie?
Tony Lip is played by Viggo Mortensen of Lord of the Rings fame.
The pianist Don Shirley is played by the Academy Award-winning Mahershala Ali.
Linda Cardellini plays Dolores Vallelonga, Lip’s wife.
Other cast members include Dimeter Marinov as Oleg, Mike Hatton as George, Iqbal Theba as Amit, Sebastian Maniscalco as Johnny Venere, PJ Byrne as Record Producer, Montrel Miller as Birmingham Hotel Waiter, Dennis W. Hall as Wise Guy Mags, and Randal Gonzalez as Gorman.

Writing from the Toronto Film Festival, Thelma Adams said:
“The movie lifted up the audience, entertaining and taking them on a road trip like no other.
“It earned its laughs, its tears and its communal sigh of relief: this is why we come to the movie theatres together.”
