Michelle finds bright colours and prints irresistible. Here she models a shirt by Bestow Elan with a skirt and nude heels from LK Bennett

This bold green silk shirt is by her friend’s label, Whip & Bang, worn here with black skinny Topshop jeans and Moda in Pelle boots

Michelle, 32, can currently be seen presenting The One Show alongside Matt Baker. She also presents the BBC’s daytime show Council House Crackdown and is also a regular reporter on Watchdog and Crimewatch Roadshow. She lives in Alderley Edge in Cheshire.

How would you describe your style? Quite eclectic. It’s all dependent on my mood – sometimes I really want to dress up and then other times I’ll like wearing baggy jeans. The key things in my wardrobe are good coats, nice shoes and a few great handbags.

What colours and shapes suit you best? I like bold colours, especially in the summer, and I’ll often accessorise a black outfit with a bright scarf or bag. In a shop, I’ll always gravitate towards red and mulberry shades, but beige and mustard can sometimes blend in to my skin tone. I like fitted dresses, but also big, slouchy jumpers, and baggy shirts with skinny jeans.

What is your current favourite outfit? Dungarees during the day – they’re like wearing a giant Baby-gro – and I wear a lot of fitted jumpsuits in the evening.

This vintage sheepskin coat belonged to a friend of Michelle’s mum. “It’s really light but also really warm,” she says

Michelle brightens up simple outfits with bold accessories. Her red and orange bags are from LK Bennett,

while the purse is by Silence + Noise at Urban Outfitters

Michelle doesn’t wear much jewellery but likes adding a belt for impact. These belonged to Michelle’s mother

A selection of courts from LK Bennett. “My mum works for them so I can sometimes get a discount,” Michelle says

They’re a whole outfit in one, and they can look really stylish when worn with heels and a leather jacket.

What is your TV wardrobe like?

On The One Show you do a lot of your interviewing sitting on the sofa so I like wearing bold, colourful things on my top half or something with detail around the wrists or collar. It can be a bit more sleek than my everyday wardrobe.

I often get people on social media asking where things are from.

What is your favourite fashion era? The 60s because of the bright colours, flares and jumpsuits, and I like the platform shoes and big Afros of the 80s, too.

Who is your style icon? I really like Alexa Chung’s style, and we had Izzy Bizu on the show recently and she looked amazing. Paloma Faith is fantastic to look at, too – it’s like art.

Do you own more high street or high end? A mix. With coats and shoes I might go more designer, but it’s really all about the fit. I’ve found some nice things in Primark, Topshop and Zara.

Which are your other favourite high-street stores? I also really like Rag & Bone, All Saints, LK Bennett and Whistles.

Do you have any favourite designers? Vivienne Westwood’s good, but if money was no object

I think I’d look for the smaller designers that no one has really heard of.

Do you own anything vintage? Yes, I’ve got lots of things that used to belong to my mum and dad, especially coats, and there are some really great charity shops up north. I like having one-off items that come with a back story.

Are you a hoarder or do you clear out your wardrobe regularly? I can end up hoarding things but then I get to a point where I realise I need to do a big clear-out. I recently moved house so I took loads of things to the charity shop then. It gave me space to buy more stuff.

What is the oldest item in your wardrobe? A dress that belonged to my mum when she was 16, or a coat my dad had when he was about 20. I’ll never throw them away.

What is the most expensive item in your wardrobe? One of my LK Bennett coats, but they’re classics and will stand the test of time. My mum works for LK Bennett so I did get a discount on them, though.

How much do you spend on clothes a month? I go through spurts. At the moment, because of The One Show, I’m spending quite a lot, but I might spend a couple of hundred one weekend, but then nothing for a few months.

How many shoes and handbags do you own? Probably 20-odd pairs of heels and about 10 other pairs of boots and shoes, plus some in a suitcase under my bed that I don’t count. I like handbags, too, but I’ve only got five or six in a mix of colours and shapes.

What is your best beauty secret? Even if I didn’t wear any other make-up I’d always put on mascara and a bold lipstick – I feel bare if I don’t wear them.

What is the best piece of fashion advice you have ever been given? My mum told me to look for shapes that suit your body shape and style rather than what’s on trend – it doesn’t matter if it’s designer or from a charity shop.

Michelle presents The One Show every Monday and Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays at 7pm each night on BBC1.
