The Court of Arbitration for Sport will announce their decision on whether to overturn Manchester City‘s two-year European ban on Monday, July 13 at 9.30am (BST). UEFA handed down the punishment to City after they allegedly broke Financial Fair Play regulations.

The Blues appealed the decision to the CAS, who will announce their final decision next week.

City currently sit in second place in the Premier League table so are on course to qualify for the Champions League.

If their ban is upheld then the side who finishes in fifth place – which is currently Manchester United – will qualify for UEFA’s premier competition.

Earlier today City boss Pep Guardiola explained why he was confident that the ban will be overturned.

“It’s not about what’s going to happen on Monday,” the Spaniard said. “On Monday we’ll know.

“I’m so confident – because I know, I am here and I saw the arguments of the club – that next season we will be there but we have to wait.

“After [the decision], I will give my opinion and the club will give a statement.”

City take on Real Madrid in the second leg of this season’s Champions League at the Etihad Stadium in August.

Guardiola’s side hold a 2-1 first-leg advantage following the memorable victory at the Bernabeu prior to the coronavirus break.

The former Barcelona boss has been linked with a return to the Nou Camp should City’s ban stand.

But the 49-year-old has recently committed his future by claiming he will honour his contract, which runs until 2021.

“If they don’t sack me, which could happen, I will stay here more than ever,” he said.

“First because I want to stay, not because this is something special. I want to stay longer than the contract that I have. I said before and now and until the end of my contract that I want to help the club grow and maintain this level for as long as possible.

“What happened has happened. It is not finished. It is not over. The CEO made a statement and we are going to appeal. I spoke a little bit and I am confident if we deserve for what we have done on the pitch playing next season in Europe.

“I am confident in the club and I am pretty sure we are going to defend our position.

“When someone believes he is right, he is going to fight to the end and that is what we are going to do. It is an incredible thing to fight for our people who support this club and we are going to do it. As a club, a team, we are going to do it.”
