FLEETWOOD MAC: Rumours (Warner)

I’m massively inspired by Stevie Nicks and this was the first album I was able to listen to as a kid.

Mostly country music was played in my home but I would sneak into my cousin’s bedroom and play this.

Stevie’s voice stands apart and I loved the mystery of the music.

ADELE: 19 (XL)

It has been a long time since we’ve heard such a really great solid singer.

Obviously the album is well produced but as a singer, I loved hearing the strength of her vocals.

The whole album is amazing: her range, her delivery and the sincerity in her voice.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shufflle (Sony)

I’m definitely inspired by Bruce’s songwriting. He’s a great frontman but he has the capacity to write songs about home towns, people going to work and seeing old friends.

These are our lives.

I see him sitting at the end of a bar writing about his day.

A GIRL IS A HALF-FORMED THING by Eimear McBride Faber, £8.99

This seems impossible to read because it’s a person’s inner thoughts without normal sentences.

But I couldn’t let it defeat me.

You have to let it wash over you and eventually your brain can process it.

Then it’s an incredible, sad story about a woman who has been abused.

JOAN JETT: Bad Reputation (Blackheart)

This reminds me of being young, sitting on the grass in front of the house, thinking: “I’m going to break out of here one day.”

She was a woman in a rock band which was so different and made me want to do edgy stuff.

CULTURE CLUB: Kissing To Be Clever (Virgin/EMI)

My best friend was crazy about Culture Club.

She had posters everywhere, she joined the fan club, she knew everything about them.

No one else sounds like Boy George and I have great memories of singing along in her bedroom.

LED ZEPPELIN: Physical Graffiti (Atlantic)

I walk by the building on the cover of this album when I’m in New York.

There’s a coffee shop I go to across the way and it’s very cool to look up and see it.

I love everything by Led Zeppelin. My new album is inspired by them and I’m proud of that.

And let’s face it, Robert Plant is hot!
