Novak Djokovic: Roger Federer's US Open record BROKEN by Serb

The Serb easily progressed into the final four of the New York tournament, beating Australian rookie Millman in straight sets on Thursday evening.

The unseeded underdog had previously shocked the tennis world by beating Federer in round four.

Millman’s four-set victory over the world No 2 has now raised question marks over whether Federer will ever enjoy success in the US Open ever again.

But Djokovic’s progress this week means he has now played in more Flushing Meadows semi-finals than his Swiss counterpart.

The Wimbledon champion’s clash with Kei Nishikori this evening will see him make his 11th US Open semi-final appearance, one more than Federer.

Jimmy Connors’ record at the American event is unlikely to be rivalled, after he made 14 last-four appearances at the tournament.

Federer used to enjoy his visits to the Big Apple, reaching the last eight or better for nine consecutive years between 2004 and 2012, winning the event on five occasions.

The 37-year-old also reached the semis in 2014 and final in 2015 but was beaten by Marin Cilic and Djokovic respectively.

Djokovic has won the competition twice and knows a win this evening will see him one game away from a hat-trick of US triumphs.

Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro are the two other stars battling it out on the other side of the draw.

All four remaining players take to the court later this evening.

Speaking recently, Djokovic reacted to his quarter-final victory, saying: “I was tested very well and I was on court for three hours.

“Credit to John for putting up a great battle.

“He’s truly a great fighter.

“He’s had an amazing tournament and to come out after his Federer match, he deserves a round of applause.”

Djokovic and Nishikori will meet in the Arthur Ashe Stadium after Nadal and Del Potro clash this evening.
