Overlord trailer: First look at gruesome horror after JJ Abrams DENIED Cloverfield 4 title

JJ Abrams produces the movie, which was previously thought to be a continuation of the Cloverfield property.

Abrams, however, recently denied that this is essentially Cloverfield 4, and instead it’s its own production.

The movie, directed by Julius Avery, opens on the eve of D-Day, with US paratroopers dropping behind enemy lines to infiltrate a small village.

They soon realise the Nazis are experimenting with supernatural forces to fight them – and things are only going to get messy.

The cast includes The Leftovers star Jovan Adepo, Game of Thrones’ Jacob Anderson and Pilou Asbæk, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. regular Iain De Caestecker, Carol star John Magaro, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn’s son Wyatt Russell, and Fargo’s Bokeem Woodbine.

Overlord was thought to be Cloverfield 4, after the surprise-release of 10 Cloverfield Lane in 2016 and Cloverfield Paradox earlier this year.

But Abrams said at ComicCon in April: “It’s bat s**t crazy.”

And a new Cloverfield movie is still en route – with the film-maker saying: “We’re actually developing a true, dedicated Cloverfield sequel.”

The trailer is whipping up a storm online – one person wrote: “Yo this #OverlordMovie looks bonkers!! Cant wait to check this out.”

“Nazis and monsters? Nazi monsters?!? Sign me up! #Cloverfield universe? #OverlordMovie,” said another.

“Great trailer & awesome music choice! I’m definitely digging this & excited for it,” said a third.

“This feels so different from the other Cloverfield films, in a good way! #OverlordMovie.”

Overlord is out on October 26.
