Edouard had only just stepped onto the pitch when he stormed into the box on 68 minutes and fired home the fifth goal of a pulsating derby clash at Ibrox.

Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias strikes sandwiched Tom Rogic’s stunner before Moussa Dembele sent the two sides in at the break on level terms.

defender Jozo Simunovic was sent off for an elbow on 56 minutes before Edouard settled the contest.

Rangers enjoyed a dream start to the third Old Firm derby of the season when Windass intercepted a sloppy pass from Dedryck Boyata.

The attacking midfielder raced into the penalty box before smashing the ball past Celtic debutant Scott Bain.

Celtic needed less than 10 minutes to respond, however.

Australia international Rogic outmuscled Sean Goss around 20 yards from goal and expertly curled the ball past Wes Foderingham.

left-back Declan John was causing havoc down the wing and found space to create his side’s second goal.

He got in behind Celtic’s defence and crossed the ball into the box, which fell kindly for Candeias at the back post to fire home.

The Bhoys pushed hard for a second equaliser and got their reward on the stroke of half-time.

Moussa Dembele latched onto Scott Brown’s long ball and lobbed a shot over the onrushing Foderingham.

The first half set a relentless tempo that the second period was unable to match but it was still a 45 minutes with numerous flash points.

Celtic were reduced to 10 men when Simunovic saw red for an elbow on Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers scented blood and Morelos tested Bain before Brendan Rodgers made a game-changing substitution.

Edouard stepped off the bench to replace James Forrest before curling home a delightful strike.

There was nearly one final twist when Bain pushed Windass’ late effort into Morelos’ path but the Rangers forward incredibly hit the post from six yards out.

Celtic held on and have now opened up clear water to Rangers in the title race.
