Respect is to be the latest musical biopic to grace cinema screens. This time, the life of motown star Aretha Franklin is the topic, and her struggles to find her voice throughout her career, despite her incredible voice.

This week the first trailer for Respect was released, showing Jennifer Hudson playing the role of the iconic Franklin.

Setting off the trailer with a bang, Hudson’s Franklin is seen stood in front of the word ‘respect’ made up of enormous lights.

She sings a few lines of Franklin’s epic song Respect at a time in time with the lights.

Inter-spliced with these vocals are shots of Aretha meeting her husband, walking into recording studios, and looking thoughtful.

Eventually the young star can be seen being told by one of her peers that she needs to step up.

After telling the woman she has had four albums, the woman replies: “And no hits? Hunny, find the songs that move you.

“Until you do that, you ain’t going nowhere.”

The star can then be seen writing the title song, and belting out the lyrics with her friends in the recording studio.

As well as Jennifer Hudson, Respect stars a number of huge Hollywood stars.

These include Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Mary J. Blige, Tituss Burgess, and a whole heap more.

The film will also delve into the civil rights work Franklin held during her lifetime.

Another scene sees her being addressed as Aretha by a music executive, before she gives a sharp response.
