SEND BREAD! UK snow sparks panic buying CHAOS as supermarket shelves stripped bare

Shelves at Asda and Tesco were stripped bare of essential items as scores of families plunged onto panic mode sparking fears of nationwide shortages.

The menacing blizzard that paralysed Britain by dumping onto us a collossal blanket of snow 20 centimetres-deep was to blame as delivery lorries battled in vain to top up stores promoting a bread-and-milk-buying frenzy.

Jen Shaw tweeted: “Aw man, it’s been snowing and I already have bread AND milk, what should I panic buy instead?”

But not everyone was as well-prepared.

Dublin Fire Brigade shared a photo of their snow-covered station on Twitter with an SOS reading ‘SEND BREAD!’

Mocking the frenzy, Chris Greene said on Twitter: “How about that snow huh? Let’s buy bread and milk etc hahahahaha!”

Reminiscing dangerous shortages caused by the original Beast from the East weeks back, Eddie Barron quipped: “Bread is so last storm. It’s all about bagels now.”

In Cornwall, stores across a 19-mile stretch from Hayle to Truro have completely sold out of bread and milk.

Other locations have followed suit promoting social media users to share snaps of frighteningly empty stories.

Jo Herbert posted a picture of her local Asda which had not one single pint of milk in stock.

Customers awaiting home deliveries were also left out in the cold as van drivers struggled in vain to reach them.

Rachel Nixon blasted Tesco on Twitter.

She said: “Very disappointed with the service today.

“Text received after delivery was due to say no longer coming and needed to reorder.”

She added: “What will happen to the coupons I used?”

Rachel Benfield also slammed the supermarket giant when her online food shop was cancelled.

She said: “12.00-1.00pm delivery cancelled at 8.30am due to snow in Worcester, roads are clear what’s all that about?”

Furious customers have been asked to contact stores direct to reschedule deliveries for later date.

But with deadly black ice set to follow the Siberian weatherbomb, vulnerable and elderly customers could be left without food for days.

The Government advised the public to check in on neighbours as the extreme weather poses a real danger to death.

Public Health England warned: “It may come as a shock to the system for some whose bodies may struggle to cope in cold weather.”
