WATCH: Melania Trump grimaces as Donald reaches for her hand – but will she give in?

Melania Trump, 47, snubbed her husband Donald Trump, 71, as he tried to take her hand during the arrival ceremony for Emmanuel Macron, 40, and his wife Brigitte Macron, 65.

The arrival ceremony was an important political event for Donald, as his first official state visit from France to the White House.

Melania wore a white suit with a belted waist for the appearance, with a matching white wide brimmed hat.

However, Melania for some reason seemed intent on keeping her hand to herself in video footage which portrays the awkward moment.

It shows Donald and the First Lady standing side by side in preparation to greet Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron.

Both Melania and Donald look stony faced as they await the French party together.

The camera pans in to show Donald reaching his hand towards his wife’s hand, little finger first.

However, she seems to swipe her hand away from him, reaching it in towards her side.

Donald, however, will not be deterred, and once again reaches his fingers towards his wife.

She holds her hand stiff and refuses to return the hand hold, but does not pull her hand away.

The First Lady’s facial expression suggests she is not impressed: she is clearly grimacing in the video.

Eventually, she gives in and holds Donald’s hand as they stand side by side.

The comic nature of what is happening is at odds with the seriousness of the pair’s expressions at this all goes on.

Earlier today, Melania’s huge white hat stole the limelight during the French state visit.

Clearly aware that the world’s media would be watching, Melania topped off her outfit with a massive wide-brimmed hat.

The First Lady chose a white skirt suit and matching hat as she stood with Donald on the red carpet. A pair of killer heels – blue with a white heel – completed the look.

Melania’s face was difficult to see under her extravagant hat, but a heavily bronzed make-up look was visible.

She wore her caramel coloured hair tucked behind her ears and hanging straight down her back.

Brigitte, meanwhile, also opted for white, wearing a quilted jacket with black piping, and a matching A-line dress.

Her hair was freshly blowdried, and she made the most of her slim legs in a pair of black patent stilleto shoes.

Both women showed off their tanned legs, as they did for their first meeting yesterday.
