Aaron Rodgers REBUKED by Packers coach Joe Philbin ahead of Jets game

The 35-year-old quarterback insists he doesn’t want to be benched for the remaining games and give backup quarterback DeShone Kizer game-time.

“I’d like to be out there and lead us the last two weeks,” Rodgers said.

However, during the Green Bay Packers 24-17 loss to the Chicago Bears, Rodgers sustained an injury to his groin in the first half.

“It bothered me a little bit,” Rodgers said.

“I was trying to stretch it out throughout the game.”

Rodgers also revealed he would “probably” have a problem with Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst or interim coach Philbin if they gave Kizer the minutes.

He completed 25 of his 42 passes for 274 and threw one interception in the loss to the Bears.

The pick ended Rodgers’ NFL-record streak of 402 consecutive pass attempts without an interception.

The Packers record fell to 5-8-1 after their loss, which also eliminated from playoff contention.

Rodgers has suffered his fair share of injuries this season and could be benched as the franchise look to protect him from further unnecessary risk.

Philbin confirmed he’s not been part of any conversion about limiting Rodgers’ involvement in the remaining games.

“I think it’s bigger than Aaron Rodgers,” Philbin said.

“This is a football team. You’re a football player.

“You’re employed by the Green Bay Packers just like if players or coaches were to say,’Geez I’d like to go home tonight and not prepare as hard for this game because we’re not going to the playoffs.’

“I mean, that’s not a professional approach to the job, I don’t think.”

Kizer was asked on Monday whether he’s been told he could play next week against the Jets.

“Nope, nothing,” he said.

The Packers Week 16 game is on the road against the Jets at the MetLife Stadium and their final game is at home at Lambeau Field against the Detroit Lions.
