Shazam post-credits scene: WHO was THAT? What does it mean for future of the DCEU?

Warning, there are serious spoilers for the Shazam movie ahead. Shazam is out in UK cinemas today, its first screening having taken place at 10am.Many fans have pre-booked their tickets, banking on the movie being a success – which it is.

But what does the post-credits scene mean? Who was that worm?

Longtime DC Comics fans have good reason to rejoice.

The scene, which technically speaking was a mid-credits scene, featured a well-known villain.

Mister Mind, who looks for all intents and purposes like a mild-mannered caterpillar, has made his cinematic debut.

The scene showed Dr Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong) in a jail cell, scrawling symbols on the walls.

Then a voice called out to him, tauntingly, and said: “Primitive simples.”

Mind continued: “You walking, talking monkeys with your cave drawings.

“You assume there’s only one way to gain magic. No, no, no.

“There are more ways than a mind can imagine.”

Sivana responded: “What in God’s name?”

“I name the gods, doctor, not the other way around,” Mister Mind said.

“Oh what fun we’re going to have together. The seven realms are about to be ours.”

Who is Mister Mind?

Mister Mind is a worm from the planet Venus, who has telepathic and mind-controlling abilities.

In the DC comics’ history, Mind has tried to conquer Earth using telepathy but was thwarted on every account by Shazam.

What does this mean for the future of the DC Extended Universe?

Another DCEU movie in production is Black Adam, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

In his comic book origin story, Sivana helps to resurrect Black Adam.

Shazam’s post-credits scene could hint towards a future film in which Sivana and Black Adam go up against Shazam.

Regardless of how these characters play together, Warner Bros’ DC Comics ship seems to have finally been righted and we can look forward to plenty of solid new superhero movies in the future.
