Royal wedding: Who is Thomas Kingston? How Lady Gabriella Windsor met her husband

Lady Gabriella Windsor will marry Tom Kingston today at a ceremony at St George’s Chapel at Windsor castle.  This comes in a year of royal weddings, with Meghan Markle, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 29, both getting married at the castle within the last year.  The couple got engaged in August 2018 when Tom proposed on the Isle of Sark and the news was revealed one month later.  The couple had been together for around four years before they got engaged, but who is Tom Kingston and how did they meet?

Tom Kingston is a 40-year-old financier and director of Devonport Capital, a firm which provides finance for companies in frontier economies, according to the Palace.

The professional gained a bachelor’s degree in economic history from Bristol University before he joined the Diplomatic Missions Unit of the United Kingdom’s Foreign Office.

In 2003, Tom moved to Baghdad where he worked to help get the release of hostages before he changed career and moved into finance.

Working through the ranks, Tom became the managing director of Voltan Capital Management and held this position until April 2017.

Royal fans may recognise the financier, as he was rumoured to be dating Pippa Middleton back in 2011 and the pair are thought to have stayed on good terms.

How did Tom and Lady Gabriella meet?

Despite his work as a financier, Tom has mixed in royal circles for a number of years.

The couple are thought to have met through mutual friends in 2015.

Tom and Gabriella are believed to have been dating ever since, although they have not confirmed exactly how they met.

When the engagement was announced, the palace released an official statement which read: “The wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor and Mr Thomas Kingston will take place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on Saturday 18th May 2019.”

Lady Gabriella is the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

Despite being the first cousin once removed of Queen Elizabeth II, 93, she is not a full-time member of the Royal Family.

Gabriella has worked as a writer and as a senior director for a PR firm.

In the third wedding to be held at Windsor castle in the last year, Lady Gabriella’s is likely to be a much quieter affair. 

It is also believed she might break tradition when it comes to picking her wedding tiara.
