Spider-Man Far From Home age rating: How old do you have to be to see Spidey sequel?
Spider-Man Far From Home stars Tom Holland as your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, aka Peter Parker. Following in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, Peter and his classmates go on a European trip, but Parker can’t quite leave crime fighting behind just yet. The Spider-Man sequel is out in cinemas on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.
What is the age rating for Spider-Man Far From Home?
Each film in the UK is given a rating by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC).
The BBFC mission statement is to: ” focus is on helping children and families choose well by providing them with the guidance they need to help them choose what’s right for them and avoid what’s not.”
They add: “Recommendations are made by our Compliance Officers based on the BBFC’s published Guidelines.
“These are the result of extensive consultation with people right across the UK, research, and the BBFC’s more than 100 years of experience.

Spider-Man Far From Home was given a 12A rating by the BBFC.
The BBFC says: “Films classified 12A and video works classified 12 contain material that is not generally suitable for children aged under 12.
“No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult.
“Adults planning to take a child under 12 to view a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child.”
AVENGERS ENDGAME: SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME TEASES MULTIVERSE
In the case of Spider-Man Far From Home, themes which lent themselves to the 12A rating were violence, threat and horror, sex, and language.
Warning: the below text has minor spoilers for Spider-Man Far From Home.
The BBFC described the violence in Spider-Man Far From Home as: “intense scenes of action violence in which superheroes use their powers against one another.
“During fight scenes, punches are thrown and people are shot at.”
SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME: IS MYSTERIO AKA MR BECK A VILLAIN?
The threat and horror is: “an intense scene of threat in which a young man becomes trapped in a frightening world of hallucinations.
Though Marvel movies are often wholesome, the BBFC says: “there is a passing reference to a young man watching an ‘adult’ film.
“There is a comic scene in which a young man removes his trousers in the presence of a woman, only for his intentions to be misconstrued by another person who accidentally witnesses the events.”
In Spider-Man Far From Home, bad language is bleeped out but there is the use of the term ‘dickwad’ and clear use of the ‘middle finger’ gesture.
SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME: IS SPIDER-MAN 2 SET BEFORE OR AFTER ENDGAME?
Other language is mild and includes terms such as ‘ass’, ‘jerk’, ‘damn’ and ‘hell’.
Though not related to the age rating, the BBFC added: “This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.”
In America, Spider-Man Far From Home has a PG-13 rating, meaning parents are strongly cautioned that some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
The first Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland also had a 12A age rating.
Spider-Man Far From Home is out in cinemas on July 2, 2019.
