Star Wars 9: Are Rise of Skywalker reshoots REALLY 'extensive'? UPDATE as release nears
As with any big blockbuster movie, there have been reshoots taking place at multiple locations for the new film, which will be the last in the Star Wars Skywalker saga.
However, some fans had raised concerns that the reshoots seemed “extensive” – and after high-profile problems with Rogue One and Solo, was Episode 9 heading the same way?
It seems the answer is a firm ’no’ – and there’s nothing at all to be concerned about. Indeed, every blockbuster undergoes reshoots, and these don’t seem to be as excessive as some may think.
Bespin Bulletin explained on Instagram, as they claimed the jungle planet reshoots were completed: “The reshoots aren’t over yet. There’s set to be a two day shoot at the lake area in Black Park sometime in August.
“The lake area was used late last year and earlier this year for the swamp and snow locations in Episode IX.
“I remember when I first revealed that reshoots were set to take place from July until September at Black Park people freaked out that it was extensive.
“All together it seems the reshoots are 4 days worth max at Black Park. So not extensive at all… situation normal.”
The account could not confirm if any of the top-billed actors had been on location for these latest reshoots, though it was noted that John Boyega and Oscar Isaac could have been.
Principle photography on Episode 9 came to an end in February, and the film’s editor has since revealed that she was cutting footage on-set due to the tough time restraints.
“I did this thing on cutting Rise of Skywalker – and we have a very short schedule,” Maryann Brandon said during a talk at the Carsey-Wolf Center.
“When we did The Force Awakens we started in May and we finished shooting in October, and we were out [the following] Christmas.
“For this film, we didn’t start until August, so we weren’t done until February shooting – so we have four months less time, and it’s a very big film.
“So I convinced JJ to let me cut on the set. He was like, ‘no, we never do that’.”
She added: “I was like, ‘just try it, so I can start turning over shots’.
“So I was on the set the entire time, and he got so used to it that he was like, ‘you need to be less than ten feet away from me at all times’ – so if the camera would move 10 feet, I would move 10 feet.
“I was everywhere! Outside, in a water tank…”
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out on December 19.
