Cheryl Cole REMOVED from Madame Tussauds: 'She's no longer worth it'

You know you have made it when you are turned into a waxwork at the famous London landmark. Millions of visitors stream in every year to gawp at the lifelike mannequins. In the social media age, it is a hugely popular destination to take the ultimate selfies. But this also allows the attraction to keep an eye on who is more and less popular. One of the UK’s most famous names has just been released back to the storeroom after she no longer proved to be a major draw.

Cheryl Cole made her debut at Madame Tussauds, but nine years later it seems her star no longer shines as brightly.

Following the news that her waxwork had been removed from display, the museum explained why.

A spokesperson said (via The Sun): “Our Cheryl figure is currently being stored in the London archives. This isn’t uncommon for our figures, as from time to time we do change who we have in the attraction.

Although she found fane as a member of the group Girls Aloud in 2002, Cheryl became a national figure in her own right when she joined the judging panel on the X Factor in 2008. She also fronted a major campaign for L’Oreal, with their famous catchphrase “Because I’m worth it.”

Her waxwork was unveiled in 2010 in a glamorous gown and her signature big hair. The look was updated in 2014 when she returned to the X Factor for two more seasons with a more simple hairstyle and outfit.

The waxworks of her three fellow judges – Simon Cowell, Sharon Osborne and Louis Walsh – all remain on display today.

After five chart-topping singles (a record for a UK solo female artist at the time) up to 2014, Cheryl’s chart and television dominance have waned.

2014 single Only Human peaked at Number 70. A new album was announced last year but has yet to be released.

Two singles, Love Made Me Do It and Let You, reached Number 19 and 52, respectively.

L’Oreal also ended their nine-year associated with Cheryl last year.
