Since Pain and Glory’s screening at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, it has been released in various places over the world to rave reviews.
In the UK, Pain and Glory will be in cinemas on Friday, August 23.

Who is in the cast of Pain and Glory?
The stars with top billing for this film are Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz, each of whom are famed for their roles in both Spanish and mainstream cinema.
Alongside them are Asier Etxeandia, a staple of Spanish film and TV, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Nora Navas and Julieta Serrano, who has appeared in a number of Almodóvar’s films.
The soundtrack has been written by Alberto Iglesias, who is a three-time Oscar nominee for his work in famous films The Constant Gardener, Think Tailor Soldier Spy and The Kite Runner.

What is the plot of Pain and Glory?
Pain and Glory follows a series of encounters of a film director in decline, Salvador Mallo, played by Antonio Banderas.
Pain and Glory shows snapshots of his life and his mother, Jacinta, at different times of her life (played by Penélope Cruz and Julieta Serrano,) along with encounters which shape his future.
Salvador struggles with everything from drug addiction, his sexuality, his declining career and physical injury in the hope to overcome these obstacles and live a life of purpose.
What awards has Pain and Glory won?
Pain and Glory was nominated for the Palme D’Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, but narrowly lost out.
Antonio Banderas did, however, win the Best Actor gong at the festival, while Alberto Iglesias won for his film soundtrack.
Film site Indiewire has also suggested the film will likely be submitted by Spain for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2020 Oscars.
