Spider Man 3: Is Spider-Man still in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home have been co-productions between Sony Pictures and Marvel. Since Marvel was bought out by Disney, it seems the new power team have struggled to work out how to make these movies with Sony. So will there be another Spider-Man?
Will there be a Spider-Man 3?
Marvel exec Kevin Feige has dropped hints that there is a third instalment of Spider-Man in the works.
However, this has been thrown into chaos when Kevin revealed talks between Marvel and Disney, and Sony Pictures, did not lead to an agreement on how to co-finance the film.
Sony Pictures released a statement, saying: “We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him [Kevin Feige] continue as a lead producer of our next live-action Spider-Man film.”
“We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own.
“Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”
This means technically, another Spider-Man film could be on the cards, but it would not fall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Actor Tom Holland confirmed in a 2016 interview that he had signed on for three solo movies, so it is likely we will see him again, but without the Marvel bells and whistles.
Could Spider-Man 3 still be in the MCU?
If Marvel, Disney and Sony Pictures can not come to an agreement, it could be that the film will not fall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This would mean some characters, like Happy Hogan, may not appear as they are seated in the Marvel Universe.
Similarly, if Iron Man was still on the scene (RIP) he also may not be able to appear in the film if there is no Marvel link.
But this could mean if any new Avengers-style movies are planned in subsequent Marvel phases, they may have to appear without the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.
How have fans reacted to the news about Spider-Man 3?
Fans are concerned about this news, worried that the third instalment of Spider-Man may not come to the big screen.
The hastags #SaveSpiderMan and #BoycottSony have appeared on Twitter, in the hopes this will get the companies to come together.
Some other Twitter users have shared their concerns about Tom Holland, who may be left in a difficult position if the production behemoths can’t come to an agreement.
