“I was at a loose end and I wanted to get out for a bit and all my local friends were doing other things,” she tells Express.co.uk.

“I wanted to get out and make some new friends and get out and about.”

Impressed by her fellow camper’s motorhomes, five years ago, Diane bought herself a “cheap motorhome” – initially using it for weekend excursions.

“I found I liked being in the camper more than I liked being in the house eventually,” Diane recalls. “After that, I sold my house.”

It was at a time when Diane said she realised she wasn’t going to be able to pay her mortgage off, and still had some payments to make on a rental mortgage she had taken out for a flat.

She explains: “I sold the house but I still have this rental flat but because it’s got a rental mortgage on it, I can’t live in it.”

It’s currently rented out, but Diane thinks in the 15 years of having it, repair work means she may have made about £3,000 profit in having it.
