Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 kicks off this summer with Black Widow, while next year one of their big superhero solo movies is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Original Doctor Strange film director Scott Derrickson was already working on the Avengers Endgame sequel starring Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme but has now left the project over creative differences.
Derrickson tweeted: “Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences.
“I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as [executive producer].”
In a statement, Marvel Studios told Variety: “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences.

Pretty much. Well at least that’s what I heard. Can’t say I know this for a fact only Derrikson does. https://t.co/eRZphOSi6T

WandaVision director Matt Shakman
Well, Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman’s sources claim that Derrickson, who is known for being a horror director, wanted to make a proper horror and Marvel Studios didn’t.
Richtman tweeted: “Pretty much. Well, at least that’s what I heard.
“Can’t say I know this for a fact only Derrickson does.”
This isn’t the first time Marvel Studios has lost a director, with Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man over creative differences.

As for who is likely to replace Derrickson, Richtman retweeted a guess that it would be Matt Shakman.
After all, he’s directing Disney Plus’ WandaVision TV series – a show that ties in directly to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The 44-year-old has directed two episodes of Game of Thrones and is helming a live-action adaptation of The Phantom Tollbooth.
The focus of WandaVision is on Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch, who will co-star with Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange 2 after her solo prelude with Paul Bettany’s Vision.
WandaVision was originally set to debut on Disney Plus in spring 2021, but just last week it was pushed forward to this year.
So just how is Vision back? Well, the promo art for the show sees the couple dressed in 1950s attire in period suburban happiness.
Presumably, this is a reality created by Wanda using her powers to help her have the life she wanted with her dead boyfriend. The show will also feature Kat Dennings’ Darcy from the Thor movies and Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released in UK on May 7, 2021.
