Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle both married grandsons of Queen Elizabeth II. Since being in the public eye, they have worn many designer garments with fans eagerly waiting to see the next look. Their cousin-in-law, Zara Tindall, 38, is also part of there family but she has followed very different rules when it comes to style.

It has been confirmed Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, will no longer act as a “senior” working members of the Royal Family.

When she was serving, the royal – like Kate Middleton – often caught attention with her fashion choices and had to follow some strict outfit rules.

Many of their garments have been designer pieces and some royal fans have speculated whether they get outfits for free in return for publicity.

However, this practice is reportedly banned for working royals and is one of many rules they have had to follow.

Although Kate and Meghan have followed style rules in the past, the Queen’s eldest granddaughter, Zara Tindall, has not, stylist, Melita Latham, claimed.

She told Express.co.uk: “Zara Tindall, whilst not a ‘serving’ royal, at events she attends, gathers all the attention of a royal with very few of the drawbacks. Zara’s dress sense is, of all the ‘royals’ quite perfect.

“She can wear rather more daring, sometimes higher hemmed dresses, while enjoying also the casual slinky top and jeans. Her formal wear is exquisite yet relaxed.”

As she is not a working royal, the expert explained Zara is able to make more daring fashion choices.

DON’T MISS

On the other hand, Kate and Meghan have been closely examined on the clothes they have worn.

Melita added: “With Kate and Meghan, every inch of their ensemble is examined under the microscope that is the national press.

“Every fold, every button, considered and analysed. As a non-serving royal, Zara can also accept gifts of clothes from designers, whilst the serving cannot.”

As Meghan announced she will “step back” as a senior royal, these rules are likely to change and the Duchess of Sussex may ditch royal traditions.

The expert revealed she could be set to take a mix between celebrity and royalty like Zara.

She added: “Celebrity status brings public scrutiny. Royalty bring the same benefits but with severe – if not intolerable – pressure.

“It seems celebrity wins every time, over royalty. Popping down the shops, picking up the kids, dressed comfortably, will receive not so much as a passing glance for a celebrity such as Zara.”

Over the years, Zara has enjoyed being able to work as an ambassador for brands in the past.

This includes a deal with iCandy prams for their ‘all-terrain’ buggy.

The mother-of-two is also a brand ambassador for the likes of Rolex and Land Rover and has her own jewellery range with Australian brand Cajella.

The royal has focused on a life away from the royal spotlight and has instead put her time into doing her own projects.

How did Kate Middleton become a royal?

Early life

Kate Middleton, or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was born on 9 January 1982 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, England.

She was born to Michael and Carole Middleton, a former flight dispatcher and air hostess. The couple founded a party supplies company, Party Pieces, in 1987 – now estimated to be worth £30 million.

Kate has a younger sister Pippa Matthews, 34, and a younger brother James Middleton, 31.

Education

Kate and her family moved to Amman, Jordan, in 1984, where the future Duchess was educated at an English-speaking nursery school.

After moving back to Berkshire the family sent Kate to private school, St Andrews School. She went on to briefly study at Downe House before moving onto Marlborough College where she boarded.

For university the young Kate attended the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Here she was awarded an undergraduate MA (2:1 Hons) in history of art.

Relationship with Prince William

Kate met Prince William when they were both studying at St Andrews, and both living in St Salvator’s Hall. Famously, William reportedly took a fancy to Kate after she wore a see-through dress during a fashion show.

In 2003 the couple began dating and lived together during their second year of university.

The couple split in April 2007, however, in October they were back together.

Wedding

Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his late mother Princess Diana’s engagement ring in October 2010. The couple were holidaying in Kenya at the time.

On 29 April 2011 they married at Westminster Abbey with a whopping 26 million watching the event live.

Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress worth a reported £250,000 on the big day.

Kate assumed the title “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge” and also become the Duchess of Cambridge on the day.
