Why was No Time to Die tour cancelled?

The recent press tour and premiere in Beijing has been cancelled for the upcoming James Bond action movie, No Time to Die.

The film was expected to have a star-studded premiere in Beijing, however it has been announced the publicity tour has been called off despite a huge number lucrative events, as reported by The Times.

Of course, this is a huge blow for Universal Picture, who distribute the film, given the country has contributed more than £6billion to the film industry in 2019, according to Daily Mail.

The movie Spectre, Daniel Craig’s last foray into the Bond world, took in more than £60million in the country when it came out in 2015.

The death toll for coronavirus has now soared to 1,600 in the country, and 70,000 cinemas have been closed in an attempt to contain the virus.

As well as this, a reported 50million people have been but on lockdown and have been ordered to remain inside or within their towns.

China is the world’s second largest economy, but figures have shown there have been 68,500 cases of the illness in the country so far, with most of the 1,665 deaths taking place in Hubei.

The illness has spread outside China, and is said to have been seen in approximately 24 countries, with it being seen nine times in England.

All nine of these patients have been discharged from hospital, however the first European casualty from the virus took place in France, when a Chinese tourist from the Hubei province died after being quarantined in a hospital.

One question is still being asked by many, however – will the film be shown in China?

Will No Time to Die air in China?

At present, cinemas in China are expected to be closed until at lease April.

Even if they are re-opened in time for the film’s airing, a studio insider told The Times their doctors would not allow the publicity tour to go ahead.

However, it is assumed the movie itself will be released in the country, though this has not been confirmed.

With that, it is also unlikely, if the crisis continues, for people to be likely to see the movie, given there will be a great danger in going outside.

The 007 filmmakers are not the first to cancel a tour in China, as rapper Stormzy announced he would do the same thing earlier this week.

In a tweet, Stormzy said: “I was seriously looking forward to bringing the #HITH World tour to Asia and playing some epic sold out shows but due to the ongoing health and travel concerns surrounding the Coronavirus, I’m regrettably having to reschedule this leg of the Tour.”

The tour is expected to be rescheduled, however it is unclear when this will be possible.

The dates affected including China, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia and China.

No Time to Die is out in the UK on April 2
