Coin worth £1,400: Prince George christening coins one HUNDRED times their value on eBay
A coin that was released in 2013 to celebrate the christening of Prince George is selling for £1,390 on eBay.
The coins were minted by Royal Mint, and the event was a first for the money makers.
The silver coin has an image of the Queen on one side, and on the other an ornate design to commemorate Prince George’s christening.
The coin has a design with two cherubs, and reads: “To celebrate the christening of Prince George of Cambridge 2013”.
The seller of the coin, irinbaldin-0, described the coin as: “Royal Christening 2013 UK Silver Proof Kilo coin, it’s a very rare coin with a perfect condition.”
Prince George was christened by the Arch Bishop of Canterbury in October 2013.
Kensington Palace said in a brief statement that Kate and Prince William were “pleased” to announce the christening of their son Prince George.
The Palace added that “close members of both families” would attend but said the list of senior guests that have been invited would be released at a later date.
Reverend Welby said he was “delighted” to be invited to baptise Prince George and that it was a “great privilege and honour”.
A coin to celebrate Prince George’s birthday sold out within days, proving hugely popular.
This was also the first time that Royal Mint celebrated a royal birth with a coin.
Royal Mint said of the christening coin: “To celebrate the arrival of Prince George of Cambridge an official coin has been released for his christening.
“This official christening coin has been approved by the Palace, and like the £5 coins often released for important Royal events, it is a must-have memento of a special time for the Royal family, and a special time for Britain.
This was the first time the Royal Mint commemorated a royal Christening in the form of a coin.
They said: “Never before has a coin been struck for a Royal christening – and the coins struck to greet Prince George’s birth were so popular they sold out in days.”
Another rare coin is selling for £1200 – could you have one stashed in your pockets?
It is one of the two versions of the Peter Rabbit Beatrix Potter coin.
