Avengers Infinity War ending: Gamora's SOUL is the key to everything in Avengers 4

It’s no coincidence the biggest mystery before Infinity War hit cinemas was about one particular Infinity Stone.

The Soul Stone was the only one never seen before and was seemingly hidden where Thanos or those who oppose him would never find it. 

The path to this Infinity Stone was the most devastating one for Thanos and the poor audience once it was revealed how the mysterious orange gem guarded its power.  

Prior to the film’s release, the directors, Joe and Anthony Russso, already revealed a huge clue about the only way to defeat Thanos. After seeing the movie, it looks like it involves Gamora and her soul.

WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS

In a major Infinity War feature in Empire magazine, Joe Russo said; “He (Thanos) is an incredibly difficult character to beat. He’s stronger than the Hulk. He’s more like Genghis Khan. He’s a force of nature. He has a spiritual wisdom well beyond all the other characters. He is a conqueror of worlds.

“He doesn’t have a weakness and that is what makes him so threatening.”

Except for one thing…

Russo added: “You have to find vulnerabilities for characters of that level of strength. Look for their emotional and physical life – that’s where we figure out how we make those characters crack.”

The movie made it very clear the person Thanos loves most in the entire universe is Gamrora, ever since he rescued (or abducted) her as a child.  

To win the Soul Stone he has to sacrifice some he loves more than anything and audiences were devastated as he flung his daughter to her death. Even worse, dying directly by Thanos’ hand also makes Gamora one of the three main characters who might not come back in Avengers 4.

It seems increasingly likely that all the heroes who died during The Snap at the end of the movie will be saved somehow in the next movie. Gamora, Vision and Loki may not be so lucky.

Unless her soul is somehow now connected to the Soul Stone. In the new Marvel comicbook Infinity storyline, part of Gamora’s soul is missing and it has just been revealed that it is in the Soul Stone itself. Gamora and Adam Warlock actually meet inside the Soul Stone.

Since the Russos already explained that Thanos’ emotional vulnerabilty is the key to his defeat, this must link to Gamora. 

It seems impossible the Guardians movie franchise will go on without Gamora, but she would not be restored by a direct reversal of The Snap. Somehow Gamora will be part of Thanos’ defeat from beyond the grave (or inside the Soul Stone). 

If souls sacrificed to the Soul Stone somehow become part of the gem rather than passing into death, there could also be a way to bring Gamora back.
