Some films really do seem to suffer inexplicable chilling curses. The Exorcist, The Omen and Poltergeist are all notorious for the number of deaths and accidents which plagued the cast and crew. Horror movie Antrum claims that 56 audience members were killed in a tragic accident in 1988 when a small movie theatre in Budapest Hungary burnt to the ground. Another screening apparently claimed a further 30 lives in an unexplained explosion.

Even the trailer comes with a warning. It tells viewers: “The following preview contains images which are rumoured to be ‘haunted’ or ‘cursed.’

“It is suggested that you do not watch this material alone or at the very least inform someone that you have watched it.”

One viewer posted: “For my horror buddies, have I got one for you! I finally found a film that SCARED me and gave me nightmares! Not gory, no blood – pure psychological mind-twisting.”

Another said: “So I just finished Antrum. I’m not dead but I may have unleashed something in the house.”

The film follows the found footage format of classics like The Blair Witch Project.

It tells the story of a young brother and sister who are devastated by the loss of their dog.

As is only natural, they decide to dig a hole all the way to hell to bring back its spirit. This raises many questions, but we are fixated on quite why they decide the poor pooch has gone down rather than up to Heaven? Seems a bit harsh.

The two cinema fires which claimed 86 lives are, of course, part of the entire fake construct. Likewise, all the experts and witnesses warning about demonic possession if you watch the movie.

The film starts in classic mockumentary fashion, revealing all the terrible things that have happened since it was made in the 1970s and warning audiences they are at risk if they keep watching.

UK horror fans may have a little wait before they risk demonic dalliances, however.

The film is currently available to view on Amazon Prime – but only in the US.
