Avengers Endgame Iron Man death theory: Is THIS what actually killed Tony Stark?
Tony Stark always had to die. In Avengers Infinity War, Doctor Strange saw the one possible future where they defeated Thanos and that involved Iron Man’s snap, which caused his death in Avengers Endgame.
Of course, we know that only a being as strong as Thanos or Hulk could use the Infinity Gauntlet without perishing.
Which presumably is why Iron Man died after he snapped the Mad Titan out of existence.
But now a new theory from Screen Rant argues there’s actually a different reason that Tony Stark died.
And it goes back to Marvel Comics.

Avengers Endgame Iron Man death theory: Is THIS what actually killed Tony Stark?
Hulk survived his reverse Snap
In the comics and Avengers Endgame, the time travel rules state that the past cannot be changed.
But also in the comics, regular beings can harness the Infinity Stones in the Infinity Gauntlet.
Yet the Stones only work properly in their native realities.
So considering the gems used by Tony Stark in Avengers Endgame come from four different realities, harnessing their power together in the MCU’s main universe is going to be pretty dangerous according to this theory.
Stark Gauntlet
So apparently this is the real reason the Stark Gauntlet fried Hulk’s arm and killed Tony Stark.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Robert Downey Jr revealed what he wanted his last line to be.
Marvel fans will know Avengers Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo struggled to come up with the dialogue before their editor Jeff Ford suggested the last line of the first Iron Man film, “I am Iron Man”.
It took some persuading, but Robert Downey Jr was flown out to Atlanta for reshoots, with Tony’s snap being the final scene they shot for Avengers Endgame early this year.
DON’T MISS…
But while the line is pretty perfect, the star has now revealed what he wanted his character’s last words to be.
He told fans when he opened the 2019 People’s Choice Awards on Sunday evening.
According to Comic Book, Downey Jr said he wanted Tony to say “Oh snap!”
Such a line would be in keeping with Tony Stark’s cutting wit, but no doubt fans are content with what ended up on film.
Meanwhile, another popular fan theory argues that Tony Stark backed himself up as an AI before his sacrificial death.
Reddit user ankitkvishwakarma argues that the hologram of Tony projected from his Iron Man helmet during the funeral scene wasn’t a recording but an AI of him.
They argue: “When [the] hologram was about to end we saw that Tony stood up from his chair and came towards Morgan and made eye contact with [her] and said ‘I love you 3000’.”
“So the suspicious part about this scene is that if it was a prerecorded hologram how would Tony know that Morgan would be sitting on the sofa when Pepper and Morgan would be watching the hologram? And also how would he know the location from where the hologram was getting projected?”
