Avengers Endgame: Schedule disaster prompted major costume change on set of Marvel film
The final film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe stage three Avengers: Endgame was a heartbreaking affair. Tony Stark, also known as superhero Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.), died sacrificing his life for the lives of the rest of his friends as the Avengers fought against the almighty Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his Infinity Gauntlet. The all-powerful glove was one of the most impressive visual effects in the final film, and there were plenty more surprises besides. But was initially supposed to be regular costumes for the superheroes, they ended up being CGI instead.
Visual Effects Producer Jen Underdahl has revealed that due to a scheduling nightmare, the movie used CGI Quantum Suits on the characters instead.
It’s incredibly common for giant Marvel films to use an assortment of special effects to ramp up the magic.
This can include all manner of techniques and tricks and often makes for a true spectacle of filmmaking.
But in the case of Endgame, the crew were forced to use CGI time suits rather than real costume because they simply didn’t have the space in the schedule to design them.
Speaking to Wired, Jen shared: “The time suits are a combination of Ant-Man, Tony Stark, and Guardians tech.
“That took quite a while for us to land on.

“By the time we got a final version, we were already in Principal Photography.
“We knew we were going to build them anyway, since they had to ‘nano’ on and off with Tony’s tech.”
The producer continued: “It ended up being that the costume department didn’t have time to develop, fit, and fabricate all the costumes for those hero characters.
“So we ended up doing them digitally,” she added.
As fans gear up for phase four of the MCU, it was recently reported by Deadline Robert Downey Jr will be reprising his role as Iron Man in the Black Widow prequel, starring Scarlett Johansson.
It is not yet known exactly how the actor would return following his character’s death in Endgame, but many are speculating it will be via flashback.
Given Black Widow is a prequel, it would make sense for Tony Stark to pop up in Natasha’s world, but he could be a very different person from the Iron Man fans now know and love.
It has also been said that the actor will use his voice for a new Disney+ TV show.
According to We Got This Covered, Downey Jr may return in Ironheart, which has yet to be confirmed by Marvel.
Avengers: Endgame is out on Blu-Ray and DVD now.
