Chelsea news: Thibaut Courtois makes contract announcement… but there’s a catch

Courtois and Chelsea have been in contract talks for several months but have been unable to agree on a deal.

Real Madrid are understood to be interested in Courtois as a replacement for Keylor Navas and their hopes of landing the Belgium international could be aided by the fact that the goalkeeper’s former girlfriend and children are living in Madrid.

Courtois will have just a year left on his contract in the summer meaning Chelsea face the prospect of having to sell him if there are doubts over his future.

But the 25-year-old says he is tired of discussing his future, which he wants to be determined before he goes to the World Cup.

Courtois told Belgian outlet Sporza: ”I’m a little tired of talking about my future every time, all speculation about me weighs in.

“I still have a year on my contract and we have to talk to Chelsea soon.

“But I already know that I’ll be at Chelsea again next year.

“Whether I’m extending or not, I’d like to be clear before the World Cup.”

Courtois’ comments come after he was withdrawn from the Belgian squad to face Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The keeper had failed to recover from a hamstring injury and faces a fitness race to be ready for Sunday’s clash against Tottenham in the Premier League.
