Doctor Strange 2: PROOF Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man will cameo in Multiverse of Madness?
Next year, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme is finally getting his second solo outing. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is certainly an intriguing title, as it’s rumoured alternate versions of well known MCU characters will feature. And it could just be possible that Tobey Maguire’s incarnation of Spider-Man will feature after some intriguing updates.
Firstly, Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has departed the solo sequel over creative differences.
And according to Variety, original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi, is in talks to helm the 2021 Marvel Studios movie.
Doctor Strange 2 will feature horror elements and Raimi, like Derrickson, is a noted director of the genre.
But considering Sony Pictures’ renewed deal with Disney’s Marvel for Spider-Man, perhaps we could see a visit to the Maguire Web-Slinger universe in Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange was mentioned in Spider-Man 2
After all, JK Simmons has already reprised his Daily Bugle editor-in-chief, J Jonah Jameson, for Spider-Man Far From Home’s end credits scene.
But noticeably this was a different incarnation of the character with a bald head who anchors a sensationalist news network version of the Bugle.
Additionally, Doctor Strange is actually mentioned by Jameson in Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.
During a scene where the editor is talking to his employee Hoffman about Doc Ock, they discuss a tabloid nickname for the villain.

They included Science Squid, but also Doctor Strange, who Jameson confirms exists in this superhero universe too.
Jameson said: “That’s pretty good, but it’s taken.”
Just imagine if Raimi helms Doctor Strange 2 and has the Sorcerer Supreme visit his alternate self in that universe.
Perhaps, the wizard will interact with this version of Jameson and even Maguire’s Spider-Man.

There’s certainly some evidence that the Maguire version of Spider-Man could be making a big comeback.
Last month, the first trailer for Sony Pictures’ Morbius landed teasing what looks like some multiverse crossover.
One scene sees Jared Leto’s vampire walking past a picture of Spider-Man with the word “MURDERER” written over it.
This references the end-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home when a fake video constructed by Quentin Beck saw Peter Parker seemingly kill Mysterio.
However, it’s not Tom Holland’s Peter Parker but Tobey Maguire’s, suggesting that Morbius – a Sony movie made on the side of the MCU – is in another universe.
Additionally, Michael Keaton’s Vulture, the villain from MCU movie Spider-Man Homecoming featured at the end.
Fans have previously created live-action Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse art which sees Holland’s, Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parkers joining forces. Could we be headed in that direction?
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released in UK cinemas on May 7, 2021.
