Downton Abbey movie TRAILER: Royal family visit in FIRST LOOK at comeback – watch here

The film boasts the return of many favourites from the original ITV drama, and also teases a handful of new arrivals as the team prepare to welcome the Royals into their midst.

As tension bubble, how will the prestigious visit go? 

The impressive cast boasts the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Lesley Nicol, Penelope Wilton and Robert James-Collier amid many more.

Dame Maggie Smith also reprises the role of Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, winning the lion’s share of the laughs in this trailer.

Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Philips and Stephen Campbell Moore are among the newcomers – and the trailer hints at an entertaining rivalry between Staunton and Smith.

Julian Fellowes has returned to pen the script, while Michael Engler directs.

The synopsis reads: “The television series Downton Abbey followed the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who worked for them at the turn of the 20th century in an Edwardian English country home.

“Over its 6 seasons, the series garnered 3 Golden Globe Awards, 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, a Special BAFTA award and 69 Emmy nominations in total, making Downton Abbey the most nominated non-US television show in the history of the Emmys – even earning a Guinness World Record for the highest critically rated TV show along the way.”

One person who isn’t showing up is Lily James, playing Rose.

Fellowes blamed James’s rising star in Hollywood, previously saying: “It would’ve been incredibly difficult for her to find time in her schedule to come and play essentially a supporting role in Downton when her career was in a different place when she was with us.”
