Emily Mortimer husband: The incredible story of how she met American Hustle star husband

Emily Mortimer, star of the most recent Mary Poppins film, Mary Poppins Returns, is in London promoting her new film, Good Posture. The star is an English rose now living in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband. And the story of how they met is truly the most adorable story ever.

Emily Mortimer’s husband is Alessandro Nivola, star of major blockbusters Selma and American Hustle.

The story of how they met has been lauded of one of the most adorable, and it all starts with a meeting with his mate, Adam Cohen, son of Leonard.

Mortimer’s husband told the Inquirer his mate Adam gave him the phone number of a girl with whom he struck up conversation.

Nivola did not think much of Adam’s tip, until he arrived in London for his role in Kenneth Branagh’s Love’s Labour’s Lost.

On arriving he opened up an information packet from the film’s producers and discovered his friend’s tip may have been right, as Mortimer was also starring in the film.

He added: “So, on the first day of rehearsal for the film, I looked around and said, ‘Who’s Emily Mortimer?’

“They pointed over to this girl. I was like, ‘Oh, my God!’ Adam was right.

“I went up to her and said, ‘Listen, I have your telephone number.’ She was like, ‘What are you talking about?’

“I was like, ‘I’m not stalking you or anything, but this friend of mine next door got your number and you never called him back, but I have it in my pocket.’

“Two weeks later, I asked her out. We spent the night and, we’ve been together ever since.”

The pair married in 2003, and have two children.

In her interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, which airs tonight, Mortimer revealed what is is like to raise American children and living in the US.

She said: “I’m married to a man I really like who lives in Brooklyn. I do love him.

“So I miss home terribly and come here as often as I can.

“If someone says go and fetch a postage stamp from London, I’d be like, ‘OK I’ll be right back’.”

Speaking of her kids, she said: “They’re just completely American… My son didn’t speak with an American accent for the first couple of years because I was really the only person he was really talking to.

“He went to school, after a week or two of nursery school he came back, I’ll never forget the first time he said pants instead of trousers. I had a very odd reaction.

“I was like, ‘OK it’s totally fine that you say pants, you live in America, you are half American.

“But yesterday you were saying trousers… are you going to be pants now?’

“This 3-year-old was looking at me like, ‘Oh my god, sorry…’”.

“My daughter who is 9, she tries to do an English accent. It’s a bit like Dick Van Dyke, it’s not very good.”
