Fleabag: Alabama Shakes song This Feeling soars up charts after emotional finale

The final episode of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s show has been widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike.

And with news that it won’t be back for a third season, its closing moments – which aired yesterday on BBC One and iPlayer – are all the more poignant.

This Feeling played towards the end of the episode and really struck a chord with viewers.

As a result, the track – which dates back to 2015 – has rocketed up to No22 on the UK iTunes charts, at time of writing.

The Brittany Howard-led band’s album Sound and Color is also enjoying a sales surge: it is at No14 on the iTunes album chart.

The song was not released as a single during the album campaign, and in fact none of the songs that were serviced as singles ever impacted the UK charts at the time.

Sound & Color peaked at No6 in the UK upon its release, and was a No1 smash in the US.

One Fleabag fan tweeted today: “Loved the ending of #Fleabag. It was particularly satisfying it ended with a song of one of my favourite bands, The Alabama Shakes.“

Another wrote: “Alabama shakes to finish off one of the most perfect seasons of TV I’ve ever watched #Fleabag #f**kingperfection.”

“The Alabama Shakes song at the end makes me cry every time I hear it. Combined with PWB’s incredible writing it was too much. #fleabag,” posted a third.

Someone else said: “Well the ending of #Fleabag has got me listening to Alabama Shakes a s**tload today. What a fantastic series!”

Yet another fan predicted: “Think Fleabag may have added a couple of hundred thousand plays to the Alabama Shakes This Feeling”.

Fleabag is currently No1 on the iPlayer Most Popular list, ahead of Line of Duty and EastEnders.

Sian Clifford, who played Fleabag’s sister, revealed earlier this month that Waller-Bridge does not plan to write any more episodes.

Fleabag started life as a short play, before being developed into a full-length piece and then, finally, to television.

Waller-Bridge also adapted Killing Eve for the small screen, and starred as L3-37 in last year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
