Grease 40th Anniversary: Sandy and Danny final kiss DISCOVERED – Watch NEW end scene
Forty years after the world fell in love with a bad boy high school mechanic and his Aussie songbird a brand new ending has been revealed.
The latest 40th Anniversary of Grease on Blu-ray and digital download includes the rediscovered very final scene.
Director Randall Kleiser shared his excitement over the rediscovered clip’s inclusion in the movie. He said: “This was the ending I had hoped to use.”
John Travolta has also shared his personal reaction to the long-lost snog with co-star Olivia Newton-John.

He added: “We looked for the original colour negative in the Paramount vaults but all that was available was a black and white 35mm workprint.
“Twenty years ago we sent this clip for colourisation but the technology at the time was limited.
“This is the first time it’s being shown.”

The scene opens with the instantly recognisable shot of all the schoolmates waving from the ground as the car magically takes off and soars through the clouds.
The new scene shows the starry-eyed couple gaze at each and then lean in and finally lock lips.
John Travolta himself has raved about the new smooch. He said: “It’s so cool. Danny and Sandy kiss on the beach at the beginning of the movie, and I think people would like to see that kiss at end.”
Kleiser has also shared how the scene came about.
The director revealed: “They were up in the car, and I said, ‘Why don’t you kiss?’ And they did. I don’t know what happened, why that never got in. It astounds me that it wasn’t the ending.”
The mystery of what happened has never been solved.
Kleiser confirms that there was no directive from the studio to remove the clip. It seems most likely that it was an editing error or a movie mistake lost in the mists of time.
The director also admits he is still not happy with the latest attempt to restore the scene but hopes new technology will eventually allow him to colourise it more realistically.
He said: “I’d love that. As time goes by and the technology gets better, hopefully we’ll be able to switch [the ending] over with the film’s natural colour. I have a feeling the technology is coming where we might be able to do that for the 50th anniversary.”
