Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Did you spot mysterious Star Wars connection?
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was the second and penultimate Harry Potter movie for which the score was composed by John Williams. The legendary composer and conductor, who’s acclaimed scores have features in everything from Star Wars to Indiana Jones, first came on board to create the iconic themes for the first film, which was released in 2001.
Despite the fact he had a jam-packed schedule the following year, Williams returned to provide the music for the second Harry Potter movie too.
At the time, he was also working on Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.
That year, Williams recorded the music he had written for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, worked on both Harry Potter 2 and 3, Attack of the Clones, Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can.
In a video posted on YouTube last year, Sideways revealed an apparent crossover between Star Wars and Harry Potter.

“2002 was a busy year for Williams,” the video noted.
“Being completely overwhelmed, Williams relied on composer William Ross to rearrange themes from The Philosopher’s Stone whenever he didn’t have time to score a scene.
“At some point, something went wrong,” it continued. “Either Williams handed the wrong score to the wrong person or Ross looked at the wrong cue.
“Something happened because the Quidditch scene in this film [The Chamber of Secrets] is scored with music from Attack of the Clones.”
Harry Potter and Star Wars composer John Williams worked on four separate films in 2002
A side-by-side comparison of the dramatic Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Slytherin — in which Harry (played by Daniel Radcliffe) chases down Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) in order to try to catch the Snitch and win the game — and the chase through Coruscant shows the two themes bearing a striking resemblance.
However, it’s still unclear what exactly led to the two pieces of music sound so alike.
When the clip was shared on Reddit, fans took to the comments to discuss the phenomenon.
“It’s amazing how even thought they’re mostly the same, the Harry Potter one sounds like it’s from Harry Potter and the Star Wars one sounds like it’s from Star Wars,” one said.
“I’m a big fan of both Harry Potter and Star Wars but I can only think of it as Star Wars,” another said, while a third added: “I always thought that as a kid. I never compared them side-by-side though. Glad someone made this video.”

Others pointed to more instances where William’s music has borne similarities across different movies, with one saying: “I think it’s safe to say that’s part of his signature sound.”
Back in 2002, the year Attack of the Clones and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets were both released, Williams spoke about his creative process in an interview with The Guardian.
Asked what he would do if he had an idea for a string quartet while working on the movie scores for the two films, he said: “It doesn’t really work that way.
“Once in a while I will make some sketches for something that may be a future project, but rarely.
“I’m focused on what I have to do that particular day. The demands of the schedule are so great that you have to keep pace with it,” the composer added.
“Composing music is hard word,” he continued. “Any working composer or painter or sculptor will tell you that inspiration comes at the eighth hour of labour, rather than as a bolt out of the blue.
“We have to get our vanities and our preconceptions out of the way and do the work in the time allotted,” he told the publication.
Williams handed over the reigns on Harry Potter after the third movie and, back in 2018, indicated he would be stepping down from Star Wars after the release of The Rise of Skywalker, telling Californian radio station KUSC: “It will round out a series of nine. That will be quite enough for me.”
