Kim Jong-un’s sister seen in public for FIRST TIME since US nuclear summit collapse
It has previously been reported Kim Yo-jong was ordered to stay out of the limelight following the collapsed talks with President Trump in February.
The leader’s sister was spotted at the country’s May Day stadium in Pyongyang, alongside her brother and his wife, as they watched the country’s mass games take place.
The event involved thousands of gymnasts and dancers performing in the show “The Land of the People,” but the creators of the performance were allegedly criticised by Mr Kim for “wrong spirit of creation and irresponsible work attitude”.
Several other senior officials involved in the meeting have still not been spotted since the event took place – including special envoy to the US Kim Hyok-chol.
According to reports by American news outlet CNN, sources close to the situation in North Korea say that the diplomat is in state custody.
The news casts doubt on revelations made by South Korean media that the official had been executed by firing squad as a result of the failed discussions between the two countries.
Both President Trump and Kim Jong-un walked away from the second nuclear summit that took place in Vietnam this year, after Trump refused to meet Mr Kim’s demands in negotiations over North Korean nuclear disarmament.
Sister Kim Yo-jong is usually a prominent member of the leader’s entourage, having accompanied Mr Kim to his first summit talk with President Trump in Singapore this February.
The favoured youngest daughter of late North Korean leader Kim Jon-il, who allegedly referred to her as his ‘princess’, was elevated by her brother to a prestigious position in the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea’s Political Bureau in late 2017.
Ms Kim was also sent on behalf of the country to the 2018 Winter Olympics held in PyeongChang, South Korea – the first time a member of the Kim family had visited South Korea since the Korean War.
Ms Kim is widely regarded to be one of her brother’s closest confidantes.
The pair are though to have attended a private school in Switzerland together and, as full siblings, shared the same Japanese mother.
Having established his power in 2011, Mr Kim is believed to have killed dozens of his senior officials- including members of his own family.
It is believed that Kim Jong-nam – Kim Jong-un’s half brother – was assassinated upon the orders of the North Korean leader in 2017, when he was attacked with a nerve agent in Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia.
It is also believed Mr Kim was responsible for the death of his uncle.
In 2016, another official was reported to have been killed with an anti-aircraft gun, after he fell asleep in a meeting with the North Korean leader.
