Some, however, believe songs and the dragon would have brought a lightness and added joy to the film, meaning this decision has clearly divided critics before the film has even come out.

The movie is keeping some of its fairytale elements, however, with the inclusion of a shape-shifting witch who is fighting with the invaders.

But clearly this remake is going for a far more earnest story, with the seriousness of Mulan’s sacrifice given the time and credence it deserves.
