Prince George to scoop award from Prince Philip? It could be thanks to Kate Middleton
Being third in the line of succession to the British throne, Prince George’s upbringing will likely differ from the majority of children his age. But, for each of their three children, Kate Middleton, 37, and Prince William, 36, have made every effort to ensure that they can grow up in a relatively normal way – away from the cameras of the world. Recently, the Duchess of Cambridge paid a visit to the headquarters of the Scouts movement in Essex. During the royal engagement, it’s thought that the mother-of-three was asked whether her eldest son, Prince George, five, had joined the Scouts organisation.
While Kate revealed he hadn’t, the Duchess is thought to have said she would “love” him to join the movement.
It came as she met children taking part in a pilot scheme which allows children aged from four to six to join the Scouting movement.
Prior to this younger Scout section having been partially-launched in 20 locations across England, children must have been six to join Scouting.
And, Kate’s comments may well have left royal fans wondering whether one day Prince George, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis, 11 months, will become Scouts themselves.
The Duchess herself was part of a similar movement as a child, having been a Brownie.
What’s more, during her later childhood years, Kate went on to carry out the Duke of Edinburgh award.
The challenge sees participants carry out voluntary work as well as a physical activity and the learning of a new skill.
It also involves those on the DofE completing an expedition – with the length and distance varying depending on the award.
Kate achieved the gold award of the Duke of Edinburgh.
Those who reach this achievement are invited to either London’s St James’s Palace, Scotland’s Palace of Holyrood House, or Northern Ireland’s Hillsborough Castle, and will get to meet a member of the Royal Family.
So, will Kate’s own experience of the award see her and Prince William encourage their children to take on the challenge themselves?
The answer remains unknown as to whether or not the Cambridge children will attempt the Duke of Edinburgh award.
However, if they did achieve the challenge, it would see them get a huge honour from their grandfather.
The Duke founded the youth awards programme back in 1956, with the leader of the the first successful climb of Mount Everest in 1953 John Hunt, taking a leading role in designing the scheme.
The answer remains unknown when it comes to whether Kate’s own experience of the award will see her and Prince William encourage their children to take on the challenge.

How did Kate Middleton become a royal?
Early life
Kate Middleton, or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was born on 9 January 1982 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, England.
She was born to Michael and Carole Middleton, a former flight dispatcher and air hostess. The couple founded a party supplies company, Party Pieces, in 1987 – now estimated to be worth £30 million.
Kate has a younger sister Pippa Matthews, 34, and a younger brother James Middleton, 31.
Education
Kate and her family moved to Amman, Jordan, in 1984, where the future Duchess was educated at an English-speaking nursery school.
After moving back to Berkshire the family sent Kate to private school, St Andrews School. She went on to briefly study at Downe House before moving onto Marlborough College where she boarded.
For university the young Kate attended the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Here she was awarded an undergraduate MA (2:1 Hons) in history of art.
Relationship with Prince William
Kate met Prince William when they were both studying at St Andrews, and both living in St Salvator’s Hall. Famously, William reportedly took a fancy to Kate after she wore a see-through dress during a fashion show.
In 2003 the couple began dating and lived together during their second year of university.
The couple split in April 2007, however, in October they were back together.
Wedding
Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his late mother Princess Diana’s engagement ring in October 2010. The couple were holidaying in Kenya at the time.
On 29 April 2011 they married at Westminster Abbey with a whopping 26 million watching the event live.
Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress worth a reported £250,000 on the big day.
Kate assumed the title “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge” and also become the Duchess of Cambridge on the day.
