Queen: Adam Lambert reveals the REAL reason the band WON’T record new music

The singer has been performing with Brian May and Roger Taylor over recent years, after first coming to their attention on American Idol. The group are heading back out on the road this year for The Rhapsody Tour, after the huge success of the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic. But Lambert has revealed why the group will likely never team up on new music, at least under the name of Queen.

He revealed the simple reason is that it’s impossible to make new Queen music without the late, great Freddie Mercury.

Speaking to Hunger magazine, he said: “People always ask if we want to record together and I’m not sure it makes total sense because it wouldn’t really be Queen because to me Queen is Freddie.

“My favourite thing is collaborating and putting these concerts together and creating on stage – it’s super fulfilling and exiting.

“To present these ideas to these two gentlemen – especially when they like the idea!”

Whilst there may not be any new material, the next tour will at least present fresh ideas.

“We’re trying new visual component and trying to re-contextualise these songs, with new lights and scenery. We had a great time creating it together,” Lambert said.

Brian May said in 2017 that he does not expect the band to make any new material, after they released a record with Paul Rogers, The Cosmos Rocks, in 2008.

“A little bit of the reticence from Roger and I is because we spent a big part of our lives doing that with Paul Rodgers – on which there was some good material and we worked damn hard for months on end,” he told Rolling Stone.

“He’s great, there’s no doubt about it, but nobody cared. It just disappeared.

“We sort of got the message, rightly or wrongly, that people just wanted to hear Queen with Freddie on record.”

He added: “The evidence is totally the opposite in regards to live – they love what we’re doing now, there’s no question, so we gravitated towards the live stuff.”

Currently The Rhapsody Tour is not scheduled to come to the UK, but May has indicated that this could change soon.

Lambert has also released his new single New Eyes, from the upcoming album Velvet.
