The iconic Queen musician has visited the late Mercury’s school and childhood home in Zanzibar, in what he described as a “pilgrimage” he wanted to do for some time. Crediting Mercury’s sister Kashmira Cooke with helping him, he made the journey with wife Anita Dobson and shared images on Instagram.

Beside one, he wrote: “At Freddie’s school. Under guidance from Freddie’s lovely sister Kashmir’s, and Abdul, our excellent Zanzibarian guide, we managed to retrace many of Freddie’s childhood steps.

“This something I dreamed of doing for many years. Nice to share with you folks.”

And beside another, he said: “ZANZIBAR !!! Stone Town.

“This is the building where Freddie and his sister Kashmira lived when they were young. A pilgrimage !!!”

The heartwarming mission left fans feeling emotional.

“I’m crying… I love you Bri, you deserve the world,” commented one.

Another quipped: “IT’S TOO EARLY IN THE MORNING TO CRY, BRI.”

A third wrote: “wholesome, beautiful, I’m gonna cry.”

Queen have added to their already remarkable success over the last year, thanks to the phenomenon that was Bohemian Rhapsody – the Mercury biopic.

It won four Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Rami Malek, and broke box office records for its genre.

Queen are soon set to embark on a new tour, with Adam Lambert on vocals, in North America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Lambert said earlier this week that Mercury’s presence is hugely felt throughout the concerts.
