R Kelly and Lady Gaga song: What song did they make together?
Lady Gaga has spoken out about making music with R Kelly and released a lengthy statement to her 77.6 million Twitter followers. The star previously collaborated with Kelly and the pair performed live together on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and at the American Music Awards. Her statement comes after the six-part Surviving R Kelly documentary was aired in the US on Lifetime.
R Kelly has denied all allegations of physical, sexual and emotional abuse. His lawyers have threatened to take legal action against American broadcaster Lifetime for the documentary series.
In the statement, she said: “What I am hearing about the allegations against R Kelly is absolutely horrifying and indefensible.
“As a victim of sexual assault myself, I made both the song and video at a dark time in my life, my intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn’t processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life.
“The song is called “Do What You Want (With My Body)”, I think it’s clear how explicitly twisted my thinking was at the time.”
She ended the statement with: “I intend of remove this song off of iTunes and other streaming platforms and will not be working with him again. I’m sorry, both for my poor judgment when I was young and for not speaking out sooner.”
Lady Gaga previously turned down the opportunity to appear in Surviving Lies with executive producer Dream Hampton telling Detroit Free Press: “It was incredibly difficult to get people who had collaborated with Kelly to come forward.
“We asked Lady Gaga. We asked Erykah Badu. We asked Celine Dion. We asked Jay-Z. We asked Dave Chappelle.”
What is the R Kelly and Lady Gaga song?
R Kelly and Lady Gaga released the track Do What U Want (With My Body) in 2013.
The track was the second single on Lady Gaga’s third studio album Artpop.
Do What U Want (With My Body) reached number one in Hungary and was a top 10 hit in countries across the world including the UK, Norway, South Korea, Lebanon and Spain.
Lady Gaga and Kelly performed the song in November 2013 on SNL with the pair doing a provocative dance routine.
They later sang the track at the American Music Awards with Kelly playing the president of the US and Lady Gaga portraying his secretary as part another sexually-charged performance.
She subsequently appeared on stage with Christina Aguilera with the pair in similar outfits as they sang the track.
Do What U Want was due to have a music video directed by photographer Terry Richardson with him sharing photos from the set of Lady Gaga and Kelly.
One image showed Kelly holding Lady Gaga, who was dressed in only a black bikini.
Lady Gaga tweeted about the music video at the time, saying: “I know you’re waiting for the DWUW video. Its unlike any video I’ve ever done. Very Personal. Just making it perfect. Exciting, #ARTPOP [sic].”
She also told MTV News at the time: “We had a great time. It was amazing. He’s wonderful to work with… We have really great chemistry.”
However, the music video was never released in the end.
Surviving R Kelly will be airing in the UK on Crime+Investigation on Tuesday, February 5 at 10pm
