Sarah Ferguson news: Fergie reveals surprising nickname & it's all thanks to Prince Andrew
Sarah Ferguson is endearingly referred to as Fergie by many people, due to her maiden name. However, the 59-year-old has a number of other monikers. Following her now-former marriage to Prince Andrew, she took on the title of Sarah, Duchess of York. And, it seems that this royal rank led to a very surprising nickname indeed. The writer and charity patron unveiled the familiar term during an unearthed interview from 2015, which saw her chat about her website Duchess Discoveries to American talk show host Nessa, for a Talk Stoop with Nessa instalment.
In the footage, the pair sit down for a chat.
Highlighting that she is publicly referred to as Fergie, the Duchess was quizzed on what she is referred to in her personal life.
“Duchy doodle,” she replied, referring to an abbreviated version of her Duchess of York title.
Clearly surprised by the moniker, Nessa pressed the Duchess on who calls her that particular name.
“Not many [people], but I like it. I like it,” she insisted, before explaining the other nicknames she was happy to answer for.
“Duch, and then Fergie is fine. I answer to anything really. It’s good isn’t it, I like Duchy doodle.”
Sarah was able to enjoy the style of Her Royal Highness Duchess of York following her marriage to Prince Andrew.
However, it seems that the couple’s marriage was not meant to be, as in 1992, the duo announced they had split.
Four years later, the duo were granted a divorce.
Just months earlier, Queen Elizabeth II used letters patent to change the rules of the title that women no longer married to members of the Royal Family could have.
This meant that following their divorce, Sarah no longer took on the HRH title.
Instead, she now goes by Sarah, Duchess of York.
Recently, the Duchess was forced to deny speculation that she and Prince Andrew, 59, could have rekindled their romance – after the pair spent a weekend in Bahrain together, with their eldest daughter Princess Beatrice, 30, and her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 35.
This week, Sarah and Prince Andrew both took to Instagram, sharing the exact same photo with their followers.
The couple were both sharing their delight at how their younger daughter Princess Eugenie, 29, had joined her grandmother for the Maundy Thursday Service at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.
From Fergie’s nickname to those of her children, what does the Duchess call Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice at home?
