Shaun Ryder has appeared looking quite different in recent months.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain to announce a new tour, many viewers noticed he had less hair.

Was this a stylistic choice? The singer explained he was suffering from a mysterious condition.

He told Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard that his hair and finger nails had fallen out.

He said: “I’ve just had a new hip, and at the same time all my body hair decides to fall out.

“No eyelashes, no fingernails, no head, no hair whatsoever. We don’t really know.”

The musician revealed he has a number of health issues that doctors speculated had caused his hair to fall out. However, the exact cause was not known.

Shaun went on: “Because I have an underactive thyroid that makes you put on weight and slow down, they thought it might have been linked to that or the fact I don’t produce testosterone anymore.

“They thought it might be linked (stress). Now it doesn’t look like that.

“They said it might be stress related, but I’m the least stressed I’ve ever been in my life, so they’ve got a lot more experimenting on me to find out.”

However, the musician is keep up with a very healthy lifestyle, eating a vegan diet.

Shaun came to fame with their single Step On, which became synonymous with the phrase: “You’re twistin’ my melon man.”

He created six albums with the Happy Mondays, from 1987’s ‘Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile’ to 2007’s ‘Uncle Dysfunktional’.

In 2017 his new band Black Grape, created with Happy Monday’s star Bez, released ‘Pop Voodoo’.

This Sunday Shaun will be on The Chase Celebrity Special at 5pm, joined by Sarah Willingham, Michelle Dewberry and Eddie Edwards.

Shaun Ryder’s heroin addiction dominated his life for sometime.

However, he is now living a much healthier, happier life.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Ryder finally revealed what it was that made him take up a vigorous cycling regime to kick the habit.

He said: “I was 40 when I did that, so that was 15 years ago now.

“That’s how I eventually [kicked my drug addiction]. I got up very early in the morning, because I didn’t sleep.”
