Last night the final episode of the Skywalker saga hit UK cinemas at midnight screenings. And following some pretty damning reviews from the critics, the first reactions from fans seem quite positive on social media. Fans were left with “tears running down” their cheeks after seeing , and by the sounds of it ones of happiness.

One fan wrote: “I have to wake up in 5 hours. What am I doing now that I saw The Rise of Skywalker? Sleeping or crying over the beautiful movie they gave us? I don’t know but I’ll look like that tomorrow.”

Another said: “Rise of Skywalker was brilliant amazing fantastic and it made this die hard fan so happy and I had tears running down my cheek it was amazing in every sense.”

While one tweeted: “Still crying over certain scenes in The Rise of Skywalker. I am mess.”

And a fan added: “So, Rise of Skywalker. Damn it. I’m crying. What a perfect end. My other childhood memories end here.”

Interestingly, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi was hailed by the critics, but received a pretty low audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Following the release of Rian Johnson’s outing in 2017, variations of the hashtag #TheLastJediawful were trending.

While some fans loved it, others felt it didn’t feel like a Star Wars movie or were critical of the writer-director’s narrative decisions from what JJ Abrams set up in The Force Awakens.

But now we may be seeing the reverse with The Rise of Skywalker.

The Rise of Skywalker currently sits on 58 per cent (a Rotten score) on Rotten Tomatoes.

Critics of the film felt JJ Abrams played it too safe for the sake of fan service and nostalgia.

While alleging the writer-director tried to make a movie that no one would hate.

It’ll be interesting to see if a reverse with The Last Jedi has happened if the audience score for The Rise of Skywalker is high.

Now that the Skywalker saga is completed, Disney are having a break from Star Wars films.

Sure there are Disney Plus shows like The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi to look forward to, but the next film won’t come out until 2022.

In January, the studio will announce what the next film will be.

Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is out now.
