Star Wars 9 to reveal HUGE Kylo Ren twist? ‘He’s been doing THIS the whole time’

The concluding part in the Star Wars sequel trilogy is due in cinemas in December, and it will – presumably – bring Kylo’s (Adam Driver) whole story arc to a close.

In 2015’s The Force Awakens we were introduced to a very complex villain who didn’t quite seem secure in his abilities or his motives.

In 2017’s The Last Jedi, Rey (Daisy Ridley) seemed to have picked up on his uncertainty – and tried to lure him back to to the light.

Despite her best efforts, and despite killing his own mentor, Snoke; Kylo ended that movie even more villainous than before.

So where will he go in Episode 9? Can he be redeemed? Will he want to be?

A new fan theory suggests that he was never truly committed to the Dark Side, and was only ever trying to infiltrate them.

In a post that has been 94% Upvoted, user unknownbearing wrote: “Kylo Ren knows Palpatine is still around and falls to the Dark Side in order to get close enough to him (and Snoke) so he can kill both.

“It’s why it was so difficult for him to kill Han – ‘I have to do something but I don’t know if I’m strong enough, will you help me’ etc.

“Talking to the Vader helmet, ‘I will finish what you started’ because Palpatine isn’t truly gone and the Force is not yet balanced or something.

“He has to do whatever he can to prove his devotion to the Dark Side until the moment comes that he can take out Palpatine.

“Just thought I’d throw it out here in the event that something similar ends up happening.”

Indeed, Palpatine’s return was heavily hinted at in the trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, and it’s been confirmed that Ian McDiarmid was on set.

So did Kylo know that he was still around – in some capacity – all along, and has he been trying to take him out?

It seems unlikely, of course, but it would certainly make for an unexpected conclusion.

More details on the movie are rumoured to be en route at D23, the Disney expo, set for late August.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out on December 19.
