Penguin
Penguin, AKA Oswald Cobblepot, will appear in the movie, played by Colin Farrell.
The background story to Penguin has been told in various movies and series, most recently in superhero series Gotham by Robin Lord Taylor.
Penguin has various backstories, but there are certain details which have stuck over the years.
One of these is that Penguin was bullied as a child for his slightly odd way of walking, his size and his nose, which was made to look a little like a beak.
Another aspect of his background which is fairly universal is his devotion to his mother, who was always overprotective of him and, in some stories, forced him to carry an umbrella.
His obsession with birds is also important, as well as his very aristocratic look of a tuxedo with top hat and tails, as well as a monocle.

Riddler
The Riddler was possibly going to be played by Jonah Hill but Paul Dano was eventually cast in the role of the Riddler.
Similarly to Penguin, the Riddler was recently played by Cory Michael Smith in Gotham and has a large number of different backstories.
Known as Edward Nigma, or sometimes Edward Nashton, he is a highly intelligent boy who becomes obsessed with puzzles at a young age.
He cheats in a school competition to be the best puzzler and this soon gets him started as a carnival employee who cheats customers out of money.
Other versions of him see him working for Carmine Falcone as an informant and almost detective, and at one point he is even portrayed as suffering from a brain tumour.
One thing often is depicted in versions of the Riddler, which is his signature green suit and his insignia of a question mark, to show where he has been riddling.

Catwoman
Zoe Kravitz is taking on the role of Catwoman, AKA Selina Kyle, in the upcoming movie.
Catwoman is not only a dastardly villain, but also a love interest for Bruce Wayne who does occasionally do some good in Gotham.
Needless to say, Catwoman’s origins are fairly convoluted, but she was introduced to be a love interest for Batman while also being someone of questionable morals.
She is mostly known for being a burglar and jewel thief, who wears an iconic black catsuit and is able to do some incredible stunts like slipping away from crime scenes unnoticed.
Other versions have shown her as a dominatrix and prostitute, a flight attendant and a young orphan, and in one comic she is suggested to be the illegitimate daughter of Carmine Falcone.

Carmine Falcone
The fourth villain to appear in The Batman is the mafia boss himself, Carmine Falcone, played by John Turturro.
Falcone is one of the mob bosses in Gotham, often fighting against the law as well as other crime families such as the Maronis.
In one comic, the Falcones are friends to the Waynes, with Wayne performing surgery on a dying Carmine to save him.
However, soon things change when Batman begins to clean up the city of crime, and Falcone quickly becomes his enemy.
Falcone had various children, including Alberto and Sofia, who also have some pretty fearsome traits and aid their father in his work.

Other than these villains, The Batman will also feature some of the comic books’ best loved heroes.
Jeffrey Wright plays Commissioner Gordon while Peter Skarsgard plays Gil Colson, Gotham’s district attorney.
The usual Gotham DA is Harvey Dent, however as he becomes the horrific villain Two Face, the filmmakers probably thought it best to leave him out.
Andy Serkis will appear in the movie as Alfred Pennyworth, the butler, while Jayme Lawson is Bella Real, a mayoral candidate in Gotham.
The Batman is out in cinemas on June 25, 2021
