UFC News – Conor McGregor’s next fight ‘in place’?

Conor McGregor’s eagerly-anticipated grudge match with Khabib Nurmagomedov is in place, according to a stunning report.

According to MMA Team Dagestan, who first broke the news of the UFC brass’ negotiations with the former and current lightweight champion, an agreement to see the 29-year-olds throw down has been reached.

On Wednesday evening, they tweeted: “The biggest fight in the history of MMA will take place!!”

McGregor, 29, hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon since claiming the lightweight title in the main event of UFC 205, a card where he became the promotion’s first simultaneous two-weight world champion.

Javier Mendez has insisted Daniel Cormier would vacate the heavyweight title – which he’ll fight for in the early hours of Sunday morning – if the UFC brass tried to match him up against his team-mate and good friend Cain Velasquez.

“I’m pretty sure if it comes to fighting Cain Velasquez or dropping the title, Daniel will prevail and Daniel’s going to drop the title,” Mendez told Express Sport.

“It’s not even a question from me to say, ‘Oh, I don’t know what will happen.’ I know what will happen, Daniel will drop it in a heartbeat.

“He will not – and he has stated on numerous occasions – that he’ll never fight Cain Velasquez.”

Cormier has aimed a dig at Stipe Miocic ahead of their heavyweight title fight at UFC 226, claiming he would’ve finished the heavyweight champion’s last opponent – Francis Ngannou – if he had spent as much time on top of the Cameroonian as his upcoming opponent.

“It’s gonna be different,” Cormier said of Miocic at UFC 226 open workouts. “The guy is good.

“The guy hits hard. But I feel like we have prepared for everything he can bring to the table.

“Man, this dude is a good champion — he is. “And I love Francis Ngannou. I think he’s a great guy.

“But if I spent 22 minutes on top of him, I would have gotten four or five submissions and found a way to get some TKO stoppages.”
